Meet the Families

Some of the homeschooling families being helped by the generosity of big hearts across our country:

The LW family has three children: girl 10,  girl 8, and boy 6. Their home nestled in the Lost Pines was among the first to burn. They are active in their church and community, and miss their friends while they are temporarily living an hour away. (update 3/15/12: This family has made the hard decision not to return to Bastrop. They are planning to purchase a home in their new community)

The R family's two sons are 5 and 8. Dad's business is based from home, so in addition to losing their house, they lost much of his business equipment. (update 3/15/12: The R family is currently living in Austin. They are still unsure what they will do, but return weekly to Bastrop so their boys can continue with their homeschooling extracurriculars)

The M family has four daughters: 11, 8, 6 and 3. They waited 9 day before being allowed back in to see if their home remained. To their delight one of their cats was living in the ruins of their home, and another appeared a few days later! (update 3/15/12: this family was just able to move back to their old neighborhood. Part of the neighborhood did not burn, so now they are closer to their property for ease of overseeing rebuilding. The girls are thrilled to have been given a piano, which will go in their new home)

The H family's two boys (ages 5 and 7) and two girls (ages 9 and 12) are currently living with family an hour away. Their house burned down but their playscape stayed standing! (update 3/15/12 We're so happy to report that the family has moved back onto their original property into a metal building that they have put together themselves and are converting to a home!)

The P family has four children, ages 7-13. They had no insurance other than God, who graciously provided a group of gentlemen from the Navy who came in and cleaned up the debris that was their home in just a day! (update 3/15/12 through the generosity of many local folks, and a contingent of Mennonite volunteers, this family will be moving into a brand new home on their original property!)

The CW family is able to resume sign language and Latin studies thanks to your generosity!

These are just six of the twenty-two families on our list.
